The Wolfe County Arts Association is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1990 to serve the community and surrounding area through the arts. The goals of the WCAA are to celebrate the rich tradition of arts in our area, encourage individual growth in the arts and to expose the community to a variety of cultural art events. We accomplish these goals by supporting and honoring local artists, offering workshops and retreats in various art disciplines and by sponsoring culturally diverse arts activities. The WCAA is celebrating ten years of bringing a wide range of art experiences to the community.
Over the years the WCAA has brought hundreds of artists into the Wolfe County schools and provided programs for the Dessie Scott Children’s Home, the nursing home, and senior citizen’s center. We now have the opportunity to expand our horizons as we make our home at the Hazel Green Academy Life Long Learning Center.
Hazel Green Academy is a settlement school located in Wolfe County that was founded in 1880. The Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) is leasing and renovating the facility and the WCAA is directing the programming. CAP is doing a tremendous job repairing the facility. They are looking to the community, through the WCAA, to maintain HGA.
The Wolfe County Arts Association recently received a grant from the Steele-Reese Foundation to establish a Life Long Learning Center at Hazel Green Academy. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring new life to the oldest settlement school in the Eastern Kentucky mountains.
Thanks to the blessing of the partnership with Christian Appalachian Project, the seed money from the Steele-Reese Foundation and The Kentucky Arts Council and the support of local businesses, individuals and clubs we have the potential to breathe new life into the historic treasure in our community, Hazel Green Academy.
We need YOUR HELP to make The Hazel Green Academy Life Long Learning Center a thriving center of education and activity. We sincerely encourage and appreciate your involvement, participation and prayers.
